A letter from Barb Heinrichs:
On behalf of Mt. Rainier Parent Partnership (MRPP), it will be a pleasure to work with you and your children to ensure that you have all the tools needed to be the best teachers you can be in the education of your children.
Each child is unique in his/her individual learning style, likes and dislikes, comfortable writing/learning positions, and attention span. We at Eatonville School District will provide a broad spectrum of curricula, activities, and learning opportunities as well as support services to assist each student in reaching toward his/her potential.
My goal as your child’s “other teacher” is to ensure you have the tools and materials you need. I will also fulfill the state’s requirements, organize field trips, crafts, and activities to foster an extended family atmosphere. The opportunity for students to work and play with others outside of their core family will expose them to adjusting to others’ personalities, likes/dislikes, and experience a classroom environment that is safe, caring and fun.
Kim Vander Hoek is the oil that keeps the program running smoothly doing ALL the background support and paperwork. She has been at Weyerhaeuser since her son started school several years ago. She also has a great deal of local knowledge that helps me in knowing who to contact in arranging field trips and local artisans.
I have been teaching over 33 years in various positions from pre-K through 9th grade. I headed the special needs and gifted departments in 2 schools (and had many students who were in both programs). My favorite position was in Kodiak, Alaska, as head of the school district’s elementary homeschool program. Having been a homeschooling mom as well as working with other homeschooling families, I know the trials, joys, and needs that come with home education.
The information within this handbook will outline the policies of our program that ensure compliance with Washington State Law. Our district strives to encourage families who have the desire to educate their own children. We will support that choice with flexible, innovative educational alternatives for the unique needs of each student. By complying with the requirements of programs like MRPP, legislators will see that parents have the integrity and dedication to educate their children in ways that are minimally equal to, but more often superior to ‘brick and mortar’ institutions.
I hope this handbook will be a reference for you as well as answer questions that you might have. If you need additional information or have concerns, please feel free to contact me… at any time!
