Dear Second Grade Family,

Hello! My name is Miss Burslem. It’s my pleasure to welcome your child as part of my classroom this year! I’m very excited your child will soon start a new journey as a second grader.  It’s going to be a year filled with fun, learning and new adventures.

I can’t wait to see you and your family at our Open House on Tuesday, September 6th from 5:30-6:30 p.m.  Please feel free to bring all of your child’s school supplies that evening.  If you need a new supply list please visit www.teacherlists.com. I hope your family made lots of wonderful memories together this summer.  School begins Wednesday, September 7th.  One of the most helpful things you can do to assure your 2nd grader has a terrific year is to read the 2nd Grade Handbook that will be sent home the first week of school.

The first two weeks we will spend time getting to know each other and learn classroom procedures.  I will be assessing the children to identify their strengths and areas they need to work on.  Once I have a clear understanding of the needs I will begin a more individualized program.  Some of our work will be done as a whole class while other activities will be done in smaller ability groups.

Teaching has always been my passion. I love instilling a love of learning in my students so they become life-long learners. I love seeing that spark, that smile and sense of pride a student feels when he or she accomplishes a difficult task or learns a new skill. I am looking forward to working with you to make this a successful and amazing year for your child. I plan to make every effort for this to happen.

Please check your child’s yellow, “School to Home” folder for important handouts that will go home on the first day of school.  Each day students are expected to have their monthly calendar in their folder. They will earn a calendar stamp, daily.  Please plan to have your child return their weekly homework packet every Friday.

Feel free to call, write a note, or send an e-mail anytime you have a question,

comment or concern.  Allison_burslem@eatonville.wednet.edu

Let’s have a great year,

  Miss Burslem
