EXCUSED AND UNEXCUSED ABSENCES

 POLICY CLARIFIED

WSSDA Policy and Procedure 3122 have been clarified to reflect the myriad ways that parents can now communicate with schools. The former policy allowed for a notification of absence by phone, but then required a written excuse signed by the parent/guardian to be submitted when the student returned from their absence.  The policy now recomends that schools may accept phoned-in and e-mailed notifications and excuses in addition to hard copy notifications and excuses. A separate excuse note signed by the parent/guardian is not required when the student returns to school if the parent/guardian provided notification and an excuse prior to or during the absence.
